Novel connection. When Richie punches Russell in the face, his mother wants to call the principal, however, Russell wants to keep quiet about the whole incident. Russell’s mom’s response was, “I’m not doing nothing. If one adult did this to another, he be in jail. Why should it be different for kids?” (p. 45)
Blog Question: Should kids solve their own problems or should adults/parents get involved? Explain.
I personally think that kids should solve their own problems. They cannot rely on their parents all their lives. I say this from experience. My brother cannot stick up for himself. When something goes wrong, he goes to my mom and mom tells the teacher. This is bad because my brother is not a baby anymore. He always goes to mom, thinking that she could solved all the problems for him. What would happen if mom can't solve his problems and he is left alone to take care of himself? He will be weak. Since the principle in the Revelers did not do anything about the bullying, Russel had to learn to defend himself. Things like this could happen, so it is better if kids learn how to defend themselves .
